newsweek: gifhound: RIP Levon Helm. The leader and drummer of The Band died today after a bout with throat cancer. He was 71.  (Via Rolling Stone) RIP. RIP indeed, Levon. The following lines, while having nothing directly to do with The Band, are as deeply ingrained in my pop culture soul as almost anything else.  Chuck Yeager: Hey, Ridley, ya got any Beeman’s? Jack Ridley: Yeah, I think I got me a stick. Chuck Yeager: Loan me some, will ya? I’ll pay ya back later. Jack Ridley: Fair enough We’ve already scheduled drinking in his honor for tomorrow night, and the jukebox will be full.
